Key databases for Law

  • AGIS Plus Text : Attorney General’s Information Service (1975 – present)
    Covering all aspects of Australian law, and an authoritative collection for primary legal research in comparative and Commonwealth law. Includes articles, reports, and books from Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region, plus selected material from the United Kingdom, U.S. and Canada starting from 1999.
  • AustLII: Australasian Legal Information Institute. Free access to Australasian legal materials. Includes legislation, decisions of courts and tribunals and treaties. Also some secondary materials including journals and law reform commission reports. Some international legal materials also available.
  • CCH Intelliconnect. This database includes full text of many loose-leaf services published by CCH. Full text of commentary, case law and legislation from CCH Australia Ltd. Covers many legal practice areas arranged by subject heading.
  • HeinOnline. Full-text legal journals and other legal documents predominantly US, also includes major international publications and some Australia Law reviews. Also includes English Reports, Full Reprint (1220-1865) and Statutes of the Realm 1235-1713.
  • LawOne. Legislation from seven Australian jurisdictions, links through to amending and subordinate legislation, Bills, Explanatory Memoranda and Second Reading Speeches, detailed legislative histories. Commonwealth legislation updated daily, NSW legislation updated weekly, all other jurisdictions updated at least 12 times a year. Also includes Federal Cases, & TimeBase Point in Time Services (excluding the ASX Point in Time Service).
  • Westlaw AU. Provides access to a collection of Australian legal materials, incluging law reports, journals and loose-leaf titles. Includes the case citator Firstpoint and Laws of Australia.
  • Westlaw China. Contains laws and regulations promulgated by Chinese government agencies at both the central level and the level of province, municipality directly under the Central Government, and autonomous region since 1949. It also includes cases sourced from the Supreme People’s Court and local courts in 31 provinces, municipalities directly under the Central Government and autonomous regions, as well as special courts such as maritime courts. Updated daily.
  • Westlaw International. Full text legislation, caselaw and journal articles from the U.S. and other jurisdictions (including Europe, U.K and Australasia)
  • Westlaw UK. Includes EU & UK legislation, case law, selected legal journals, Legal Journals Index, Financial Journals Index Archive (-Mar. 2006), Woodfall’s law of landlord and tenant, and Palmer’s company ‘s law.

  • AustLII: Australasian Legal Information Institute. Free access to Australasian legal materials. Includes legislation, decisions of courts and tribunals and treaties. Also some secondary materials including journals and law reform commission reports. Some international legal materials also available.
  • Australian Current Law – Reporter via LexisNexis AU. Provides digests of judgments from the High Court, the Federal Court and the State Supreme courts, as well as important decisions from the Family Court, Federal Magistrate’s Court, AAT and selected tribunals. Coverage extends back to 1976 for cases and to 1991 for legislation.
  • BarNet JADE. Jade (Judgments and Decisions Enhanced) is a free current awareness service that collects recent decisions of selected Australian Courts and Tribunals into a searchable database.
  • CaseBase via LexisNexis AU. Australian case citator providing details of where a case has been reported and cases where the main case has been considered. Also provides subject access to cases and journal articles which discuss a specific case.
  • FirstPoint via Westlaw AU. Combining Australian Case Citator and Australian Digest, this database cites Australian reported cases and summarises Australian case law developments.
  • ICLR Online.Provides access to authorised UK cases, including The Law Reports and Weekly Law Reports. Also the Citator+ index cards present relevant case information.
  • Law Reports – A-Z. Alphabetical list of Australian and New Zealand Online Law Reports
  • Justis & JustCite. Justis 2.0 is the online legal library of UK, EU and Irish law dating from 1163 to the present day. It is integrated with JustCite, a legal reference search engine, which provides a fully cross-referenced index to a comprehensive collection of authoritative UK and European legal information.
  • The ICLR reports including The Law Reports and Weekly Law Reports are now available via ICLR Online.

  • Australian Current Law – Legislation. ACL Legislation alerts you to the latest amendments to all Acts, Regulations, Rules and other statutory instruments across all Australian jurisdictions. Coverage extends back to 1976 for cases and to 1991 for legislation.
  • Capital Monitor. Full coverage of Australian Parliaments, government departments, agencies, courts and key stakeholders in public policy; provides parliamentary, political, legislative, regulatory and judicial news and information almost as soon as it is available. Includes Commonwealth and NSW bills, Commonwealth Government gazettes, tax rulings, acts assented. Full-text available for many publications.
  • ComLaw. Official source for the full-text of Commonwealth legislation and the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments (FRLI).
  • Lawlex. Free access only to Australian legislation, (plus NSW, Qld, NT and Victoria) from Anstat. Subscription services unavailable through this site.
